PL-7 Red/Black Micarta, Black PVD represents a new interpretation of the PL line, which combines aggressive blade geometry, advanced pivot lock mechanics and carefully refined ergonomics. The manufacturer Reate, known for its high quality workmanship and strict assembly control, proposes a design based on Persian styling with a distinctively curved trailing point blade and a Micarta Handle, which is both an aesthetic and utilitarian element. Blade is made of Nitro-V, stainless steel with enhanced corrosion resistance and high edge retention. The black PVD coating gives it a deep matte tone and increases surface durability under heavy use. The hollow grind allows for precise pull cuts, while the flipper system and high-performance ball bearings ensure fast, smooth one-handed blade unfolding. Nitro-V stainless martensitic knife steel based on chromium was introduced by New Jersey Steel Baron(NJSB). The manufacturer used the existing superior AEB-L knife steel and upgraded it with nitrogen and vanadium to improve edge performance and achieve high hardness and extreme corrosion resistance, especially crucial in the marine industry and humid environments. Nitro V can be used in diving knives because of its resistance to staining and corrosion. The recommended working hardness is between 58-62HRC, and it has very good impact strength compared to other steels. It is harder than stainless powder steels such as M390, Elmax and S35VN. Therefore, Nitro-V will be a good fit for knives that require good strength.
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) – The resistance of the surface of the blade and cutting edge has been enhanced by a vacuum deposition method used to deposit thin films by condensing an evaporated form of the desired material onto the surface of the workpiece. The coating method involves a purely physical process such as high-temperature vacuum evaporation followed by condensation. The applied coating has a very high hardness which significantly increases the resistance of the blade to rust and abrasive wear.
Blade – with a trailing point profile is distinguished by a clearly curved back line and an elongated belly, which translates into high efficiency in pulling cuts and precise maneuvers. The base material is Nitro-V steel, prized for its balance of rust resistance, edge durability and ease of sharpening. The black PVD coating creates a uniform protective barrier against abrasion and corrosion, while enhancing the tactical nature of the knife. The hollow grind improves material penetration and working sharpness while maintaining structural integrity. The flipper system located at the back of the blade is supported by Ball bearings, which ensures fast, responsive opening without play or resistance.
Handle – made of two-tone Micarta, a material resistant to moisture and temperature changes, with a laminated structure that increases durability while maintaining low weight. The milled finish provides a secure grip without excessive roughness. The pivot lock mechanism, centrally embedded, allows intuitive locking and releasing of the blade by pressing the axis screw. The slightly enlarged profile improves ergonomics, especially for longer tasks. The overall design is complemented by a double-sided titanium deep-carry clip, allowing for discreet carrying, and a lanyard hole, which enhances attachment and security options. The accuracy of fit and finish of all components confirm the premium quality, for which the Reate brand is known.
