The PL-6 Green/Black Micarta, Black PVD is the latest interpretation of an EDC folder from Chinese manufactory Reate, whose founder, David Deng, has in a short time built a globally recognized brand. The company has made a name for itself through the highest precision of workmanship, using certified materials from the USA, Germany and Japan, and introducing innovative mechanical solutions, valued by the best OEM knifemakers in the world. One of the hallmarks of the PL-6 model is the revolutionary pivot lock mechanism, which allows the blade to be locked and unlocked by pressing the pivot screw – without the need for force. This solution offers a level of comfort comparable to the best button locks, while maintaining the robustness of classic locks. In addition, the knife is equipped with a precise flipper system, ensuring smooth opening with one hand. Blade is made of Nitro-V stainless steel, developed by New Jersey Steel Baron as an improved version of AEB-L. With the addition of nitrogen and vanadium, Nitro-V offers excellent wear and corrosion resistance while maintaining a fine-grained structure and high edge stability. The satin finish and flat grind provide a combination of aesthetics and practicality, ideal for everyday use. Handle made of two-tone Micarta combines lightness, weather resistance and a unique look – each piece has a different natural pattern. Nitro-V stainless martensitic chromium-based knife steel introduced by New Jersey Steel Baron(NJSB). The manufacturer used the existing superior AEB-L knife steel and upgraded it with nitrogen and vanadium to improve edge performance and achieve high hardness and extreme corrosion resistance, especially crucial in the marine industry and humid environments. Nitro V can be used in diving knives because of its resistance to staining and corrosion. The recommended working hardness is between 58-62HRC, and it has very good impact strength compared to other steels. It is harder than stainless powder steels such as M390, Elmax and S35VN. Therefore, Nitro-V will be a good fit for knives requiring good toughness.
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) – The resistance of the surface of the blade and cutting edge has been enhanced by a vacuum deposition method used to deposit thin films by condensing an evaporated form of the desired material onto the surface of the workpiece. The coating method involves a purely physical process such as high-temperature vacuum evaporation followed by condensation. The applied coating has a very high hardness which significantly increases the resistance of the blade to rust and abrasive wear.
Blade – drop point with a gently curved cutting edge provides versatility of use – from precise maneuvering to intensive cutting. The blade made of Nitro-V steel offers high corrosion resistance, edge stability and the ability to produce a very sharp blade. Thanks to the additions of vanadium and nitrogen, the material performs well in applications requiring thin geometry while maintaining structural durability. The flat grind and PVD coating ensure smooth cutting and minimal material resistance. Opening is accomplished by an ergonomic flipper tab, located on the back of the Blade – ideally suited for one-handed operation. Thanks to the precision of the mechanism, the PL-6 offers speed and satisfaction comparable to the best flipper designs.
Handle – the two-tone Micarta of the PL-6 is not only an aesthetic accent, but above all a high-end utility material. It offers excellent grip in all conditions, resistance to moisture and dirt, and exceptional durability. The two-tone texture gives each knife an individual character, while the subtle milling and chamfered edges ensure high comfort during prolonged use. At the heart of the design is the pivot lock mechanism, which allows the knife to be unfolded and folded by applying pressure to a central screw. This system combines modernity and convenience with mechanical reliability. The wider profile of the Handle provides better grip and stability, and the deep carry clip allows discreet carrying – for both right- and left-handed users. The model weighs less than 120 grams, making it an ideal EDC with a perfectly balanced weight-to-function ratio.
