Stretch 2 XL Lightweight Cobalt Blue FRN, Satin is an improved version of the popular folder with excellent ergonomics and superior cutting qualities. Designed to meet the demands of the field, fulfilling the function of a versatile survival or hunting knife valued for its size, lightweight carry and ease of use. For these users, Spyderco has introduced a lightweight version of the Stretch 2 XL with a SPY27 steel blade and injection molded lightweight and durable FRN composite grips in the elite color Cobalt Blue, reserved for knives with a CPM SPY27 steel blade. The design is by Sal Glesser, founder of Spyderco.
CPM SPY27 – a proprietary blend of alloys including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen and cobalt. The high-alloy stainless steel contains 1.4% carbon and a 1% admixture of niobium (Nb), one of the best carbides, which contributes to the steel’s wear resistance. Thanks to its properties, the steel holds sharpness for a very long time and guarantees aggressive cuts for a long time. It is easy to sharpen, corrosion resistant and contains a high admixture of 14% chromium. It provides good strength and cutting edge retention, as well as a fine-grained structure. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy(CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and toughness compared to steels produced by conventional methods.
Blade – with Clip Point profile.Plain blade was derived with Full Flat Grind for excellent geometry and strength, finished with elegant satin finish. On the back of the Blade, a notchedramp (jimping / crosshatching) positions the thumb, gives solid support and makes it easy to operate the folder. The SpyderHole round cutout (Spyderco patent) allows you to open the knife with one hand using your thumb. Blade lock of Back-Lock type with additional Boye Detent cutout, preventing accidental release of the lock when gripping the knife firmly.
Handle – in elite Cobalt Blue color . Non-slipbi-directional textured covers(Bi-Directional Texturing) and notched notches on the back of the Handle(Spine Jimping) strengthen the grip even with wet hands. Made of FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon), a fiberglass-reinforced nylon plastic. Metal hourglass clip with four-way (up/down, right/left) 4-way clip positions. In the back of the Handle, a hole (lanyard hole ) for the cord.
